A hotel restaurant in an anonymous, fabulous space that could house whatever cuisine that will succeed this overproduced, underrealized "barbecue joint". The vaunted ribs are sad and dry and drowned in a treacle sauce. The barbecue experience is all about the meat and smoke. That's BBQ Same problem for the anticipated kid which read better on the menu than it tasted. A waste of a good cut of meat. The staff and service was excellent and would fit easily into the next incarnation for this gorgeous space.
I had my 30th birthday dinner with my partner at Blue Boar and it was lovely - the staff went the extra mile because it was a special occasion and I really appreciated it. The ribs and steak were excellent and the vegetarian cauliflower steak was a real surprise hit. Good wine list too. Very sleek decor too. Will definitely be returning. Would be good pre-theatre if you're around Victoria.
If you go here there is only 1 dish that is a must They are incredible. This restaurant is attached to the Intercontinental Hotel in St James. The ribs were excellent - very large for a starter, my smoked chicken, pear and endive salad was lovely, the pulled lamb good and the tomahawk steak excellent and came with fantastic onion rings.
Didn't try the pudds as the ribs were so filling. Would visit again for a special occasion. I had the starter portion of ribs as my main accompanied by two sides. Believe me, portion sizes are generous and I struggled to finish the meal but the food was delicious. Ribs were tender and well seasoned and the sweetcorn side tasted amazing.
I would not hesitate to visit the Blue Boar Smokehouse again. I look forward to my next visit. Four of us ate here on a Saturday night. The restaurant was probably only one third full, but it had a nice ambience, albeit quiet. The restaurant decor is lovely and the tables are not on top of each other which makes a nice change.
The food was excellent and the service was too One of us had a steak, one a burger and two had the pulled pork. Two had the ribs to start and said they were up there with the best they'd eaten.
Ony one dessert was ordered banana alaska - and it was pretty bland and boring. Other than that an all round excellent meal - and the wine was very good too.
Not the cheapest place around but you are in Westminster. The bar has a great setting and good drinks. However, the food in the restaurant is over priced for what it is. We had starters, mains and desserts and the bill was definitely on the expensive side and not worth the price paid.
For the same price we could have gone to a much nicer restaurant, and for not a lot more a Michelin starred one. My partner and I had the Rib Eye, though for the price we should have gone to Gaucho's and we'd have had a much better steak.
The restaurant and service was pleasant enough, though no ambience and not the best value for money. We went on Saturday night. Part of the Intercontinental hotel, so the prices are fairly steep and the portions small. Also the lighting in the restaurant needs addressing as it is way too bright under the spot lights which feel like sun lamps and the acoustics are noisy. I took clients here as it had come recommended. We were told that there was a 15 minute wait on the food however despite having the two course set menu we didn't get our starter for 1 hour and 15 minutes!
I had a chase as we were going to be late. The tomato soup was just clear water and the smoked salmon salad was dry with traces of smoked salmon. The main came soon after - disappointing portions and undercooked new potatoes. I then had to chase again to get coffees.
All in all a disappointing and overpriced meal. Shame as its a lovely venue and great location. A hotel restaurant trying not to be a hotel restaurant. A very strange menu that thought it wanted to be a grill but ended up a southern states specialist but with loads of veggie options. Very strange. The restaurant is tucked away at the back and I really struggled to get anyone's attention to be seated.
They tried to seat me on the outside of the main area but I refused and was seated in the more comfortable and atmospheric part of the restaurant. All a bit of a battle. Pleasant efficient service, interesting and well presented food and a good environment in the restaurant which is calm after a noisy bar Very good location. Used for first time for a business meal.
Plenty of space for a private conversation. Food and service excellent! Blue Boar is rated 4. Skip to Main Content. Overview Menu Reviews. Not available on OpenTable Unfortunately, this restaurant is not on the OpenTable reservation network.

Civil service donations pay for lifeboat honouring Prince Philip. I'll sort it. The Blue Boar Smokehouse is a grotesque marketing conceit, realised in acres of dark wood veneer, hefty linen and glassware.
It occupies the back room of a corporate hotel for businessmen, dreaming only of an in-house movie and a handful of tissues, and feels like two hours of death by PowerPoint, presented by a lifestyle trends consultant who once went to Hoxton. You can imagine the pitch: "dirty food" is cool; people like pulling their pork, whatever that means; fried chicken isn't just for sink estates in Peckham; making this kind of crap is easy and cheap.
Fill yer boots. Or don't. Their ribs arrive dangling out of a mini bucket. Ah yes. I've seen things like this before; it's like experiencing a vicious flashback before you've taken the drugs. The sauce is at first as sharp and acidic as a cheap packet of salt and vinegar crisps and then as sweet as a six-year-old's confection stash. If the meat has spent any time in a smoker, I'm afraid it will take a more acute palate than mine to detect it.
My mouth had been brutalised by the sauce. On issues of smoke it had nothing to say.
